Reset a wall,
and climbers know.
Setters snap a photo and tap a grade, and the new problem is in VARO. Climbers log it with one tap at the wall, and every unfinished project is a reason to come back.
The setter tool’s first version is ready, and the VARO app is out on the App Store. We’re looking for our first gyms to try it on a real reset.
How resets reach climbers today
Reset news disappears in 24 hours
Resets are usually announced in an Instagram story. Miss it, and climbers miss the news.
Climbers don’t know which wall changed
They find out at the gym that a whole wall is new, or that the problem they were projecting is gone.
Route info isn’t in one place
Grade, color, which wall: you have to see it in person or ask the front desk.
How it works
Setters and climbers share the same route data. A setter adds a problem once, and climbers never have to type it in.
- 01Setter
Pick the zone you just reset and shoot the new problems
Open the web tool on a phone, pick the zone, and take a photo. Nothing to install; any phone works.
- 02Setter
Tap the color and grade, then the next one
The color carries over from the last problem, so most take a single tap on the grade. It saves and the camera opens again. No typing with chalky hands.
- 03Climber
Climbers log it with one tap at the wall
The new problem shows up on the wall photo in VARO. Climbers tap it and pick one more go, sent or flash.

What your gym gets
In the first version
Every reset is an announcement
Upload the photos and the new problems are in the app. No story that disappears in 24 hours: climbers open VARO and see which zone changed.
No extra paperwork
No spreadsheets, no going back to a computer. Bad gym wifi is fine: photos wait on the phone and upload once it’s back online.
A reason to come back
Every project a climber logs at your gym stays in the app, a reminder that it isn’t sent yet.
Planned
Reset notifications
When you reset, the climbers who come to your gym get a notification.
Route feedback
Which problems get the most attempts and how climbers rate the grades. Counted only from climbers who log in VARO, never showing anyone’s individual log.

Questions from gyms
- Do we need to install an app or buy hardware?
- No. The setter tool is a mobile web page; setters open it on their own phones.
- What if the wifi in the gym is bad?
- Photos are kept on the phone and upload automatically once it’s back online. Setters keep shooting without waiting.
- Who can change our routes?
- Only your gym’s staff accounts. There’s no public sign-up; we set up every account by hand.
- Can the gym see climbers’ logs?
- No. Logs are private by default; other people only see what a climber chooses to share.
